Kinoteka na Makedonija is a new partner of the European Film Gateway and now gives access to a collection of 16 digitally restored films from the most interesting periods of Macedonian cinema. The collection includes the digitally restored versions of the films from two of the most prolific Macedonian filmmakers Stole Popov and Ljubisha Georgievski as well as a compilation of films shot by the Manaki Brothers, consisting of 44 short documentary films explaining the life of the people that were living on the Macedonian ground from 1905 to 1918. The Manaki brothers films are important documents of the life on the Balkans in the beginning of the 20-th century, mostly because they are the first footage ever filmed on this territory. Additionally, Kinoteka na Makedonija features Arsenij Jovkov’s film “Macedonia in pictures” which was made in 1923, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising. The film represents a visual collage of Macedonia as well as a summary of the Macedonian liberation idea and its most important protagonists.
