Films from Macedonian Cinematheque now on EFG

Kinoteka na Makedonija is a new partner of the European Film Gateway and now gives access to a collection of 16 digitally restored films from the most interesting periods of Macedonian cinema.

 
Request for proposals: Technical service provider for EFG

As a partner of the Europeana Digital Service Infrastructure, Deutsches Filminstitut is seeking a subcontractor to carry out ingests of metadata from 15 European film archives into the database behind the online portal European Film Gateway. Previously unseen footage of the Eastland Disaster in Chicago uncovered

Eastland film screenshotA phD candidate from the University of Illinois in Chicago has uncovered previously unseen footage of the Eastland Disaster in Chicago digitised within the EFG1914 project. The footage from the collection of the EYE Film Institute (Amsterdam) shows the immediate aftermath of the disaster, which occurred when the Eastland capsized in the Chicago river in July 1915 and 844 people got killed.

 
Collections of the Scottish Screen Archive now on EFG

The Queen in ScotlandOver 1'300 videos from the collections of the Scottish Screen Archive at the National Library of Scotland are now searchable through EFG. The selection of films provided are mostly non-fiction, and include documentaries, newsreels, educational material, television, public information films, industrial, advertising and promotional material.

 
World War One commemoration ceremony of the United Nations with film material from EFG1914

EFG1914 screenshot trailerWith a ceremonial event, the United Nations will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War in the presence of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday, 8 July 2014, 6:30 pm local time, at the UN headquarters in New York. The event will be the only commemoration of WW1 that will bring all the Member States of the United Nations together. A clip with film material digitised by the EFG1914 partners will be shown to several hundred international diplomatic representatives as introduction to the event.
