Developed in the framework of the international research project "ViCTOR-E: Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration and Reconstruction in Post-WW II Europe", the online exhibition Frames of Reconstruction. Realities and Visions of Recovering Europe. Documentary Film in Postwar Visual Culture tells a visual history of the European postwar era and reconstruction efforts that were unfolding across the continent from 1944 until 1956.

The 2019 Copyright Directive brought forward a solution to clear copyright on out of commerce works. To benefit from this solution, cultural heritage institutions need to publicise their intention to make datasets available online via the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) out of commerce works portal.   

In the light of the war in the Ukraine, the Association of European Cinematheques continues to seek ways to support its colleagues from the Oleksandr Dvozhenko Centre in Kyiv.

On 20-22 April 2022, the final conference of the international research project "ViCTOR-E - Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration and Reconstruction in Post-WW II Europe" will take place at the Institut national d'histoire de l'art.

The organizers of the FIAF Congress 2022, which will take place in Budapest, Hungary from 24-29 April 2022, have issued a Call for Papers for the FIAF Symposium entitled "The Visible Archive: Archiving, preserving, digitizing, and sharing 'non-feature' film collections".

On the occasion of this year's World Day for Audiovisual Heritage we are excited to announce a new thematic collection on EFG focusing on reconstruction efforts after WWII in Europe, particularly in the Czech Republic, France, Germany and Italy. This collection is one of the results of the EU-funded research project "VICTOR-E: Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration and Reconstruction in Post-WW II Europe".

The international research project "VICTOR-E - Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration and Reconstruction in Post-WW II Europe" that explores how audiovisual representations of public spaces – and particularly the documentation of war damage and of reconstruction efforts –, shaped the politics, policies and polities of post-WW II Europe, will hold its final conference "The Reconstruction of Post-World-War II Europe through the Visual Arts" from 20 - 22 April 2022 in Paris. The Call for papers is out now.

Since late June this year, Arxiu del So i de la Imatge de Mallorca (ASIM) present almost 100 films from their extensive collections documenting the history and intra-history, heritage and ethnography of the island.

As an aggregator of Europeana, the European Film Gateway will be represented at the Europeana Aggregators’ Fair that takes place on 16 and 17 June 2021 online. On 17th of June from 13:00–13:30 EFG staff invite interested colleagues to join the “EFG for beginners” session during which you can learn about EFG and discuss the easiest ways to get connected and present your collections on our portal and Europeana.

"Migrating Archives of Reality. Programming, Curating, and Appropriation of Non-fiction Film" is an online conference organised by the EU-funded international research project Victor-E - "Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration, and Reconstruction in Post WWII Europe" that will take place on 6/7 May 2021. Among other things, the conference will look at how non-fiction films as they increasingly appear in (but also often disappear again from) online archives, virtual exhibitions, social media, YouTube etc.
