  • Kuvaus: Clara, widow duchess of Santauro, has confined her daughter Margarita, of great beauty, in the Royal Boarding School, where she goes to take her out and to make her debut already. So that it does not affect the reputation of her daughter, she breaks off her affair with Luis de Castro, a “don Juan of today”, blackmailer and a drunkard. The duchess decides to celebrate a party, where Luis meets Margarita and seduces her. Clara receives Luis at home in order to ask him for her letters. Margarita, who sees him arriving, thinks he is coming to ask for her hand to her mother, and hidden listens to the conversation. Such is the disillusion that Margarita falls ill and goes mad. Time goes by and one night Luis, during a binge drinking, bets his life that very soon the daughter of Clara will kiss him. The matter hits the newspapers and High society turn their backs on the duchess in considering that affair as a scandal and they did not turn up to the ball she had organized; Luis is the only one present, who arrives to the mansion and goes upstairs to the room of the mother. Margarita, upon seeing him, takes a dagger in order to take revenge, because she considered him the cause of all her woes. But when she listens to the conversation, she realizes that her mother still loves him. Desolated, the dagger and the oil lamp slipped out of her hands setting the curtains on fire without her realizing it. The duchess dies of asphyxiation and Margarita is deeply disturbed. In the meantime, the lecher Luis has already seduced Laura, the daughter of Doctor Reyes and a close friend of Margarita in the boarding school. Laura and his father take the poor wretch in with the aim of taking care of her. There, Margarita hears the voice of Luis wooing her friend and with a superhuman strength she kills him. Finally she gives him the kiss by which he destroyed her honour, the kiss of death, before she also dies.
