ELECTRA
ELECTRA
In the middle of the poster, Anna Synodinou, the leading actress, is depicted down on her knees, wailing and holding her head with her hands. Beside her stands the artistic rendering of an ancient temple where the drama unfolds. The leading actors’ names appear at the bottom of the poster on the left: “Anna Synodinou, Thanos Kotsopoulos”. In a vertical text bar on the right of the poster, SOPHOCLES’ ELECTRA and the author’s name are written in ancient Greek font. A footnote at the bottom on the left says “Printed by Spanoudis”.
A case of mixed design approach, whereby the leading actress’s photo is inserted next to the painted setting of an ancient Greek temple. A remarkably expressive black and white photograph of Anna Synodinou, shot at a most revealing scene of the play, is set against a colorful modern setting that is reminiscent of the façade of an ancient temple set against a gray background. The letter typeface, in ancient Greek font, aptly complements the subject’s imagery stemming from the ancient Greek tradition.
