  • Aprašymas: Macedonia, Kastoria, in the early 20th century. A poor Greek fisherman, Apostolis, strives daily to provide for his large family and resignedly bears the oppression of the Turks. The fish-monger Hasan systematically avoids paying him, and when Apostolis pressures him, Hasan fingers him as an insurgent. Apostolis’ oldest son, Christos, who helps his father in fishing, discovers a fighter, who is wounded and separated from his comrades, in a hovel by the lake. When Christos sees him, he feels the yearning for freedom awakening within him. He takes care of the wounded man and tries, unsuccessfully, to help him through the assistance of his grandfather. The relationship that develops between them is ingenuous and honest, but when the fighter’s wound festers, he decides to put an end to his life. After that, Christos takes up his gun and greatcoat and becomes a rebel. He is determined to fight the occupier for the freedom and prosperity of his country.
